Sistema Tecnológico de Monterrey
Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey (ITM) was established in 1943 thanks to the vision of Mr. Eugenio Garza Sada and a group of entrepreneurs, who set up a civil society called Enseñanza e Investigación Superior, A.C.
ITM is a private, independent, non-profit institution that avoids political or religious partisanships.
The mission of ITM and its campuses is supported by civil societies whose members —distinguished leaders from different parts of the country— are strongly committed with the quality of higher education.
Every year, the managers of these civil societies join together for the purposes of setting the principles that must inspire big decisions, letting ITM to fulfil the duty of turning itself into the driving force of the communities and the country.
ITM is supported by the international community, which takes part in its scholarship and investment programmes.
ITM is officially regarded as a University Free School, which is the status that defines its functions as a higher education institution.
Multicampus University System
Currently, ITM is a multicampus university system, with facilities in several regions of the country.
The prestige that ITM has had since its beginnings is due not only to its academic quality, but also to its entrepreneurial culture and its high standards concerning efficiency and responsibility . In fact, former students from other parts of the country use to promote ITM at their home cities.
The aforementioned realities have allowed ITM to observe regional needs and to train professionals with the ability to meet them. Also, as ITM functions on a nationwide scale, it has taken the responsibility of providing solutions for major challenges in Mexico.
Some of ITM's former students are now managing successful companies, in Mexico and in Latin America; others held key positions in government and public administrations.
In 2005, the Vision, Mission, Strategies and Principles of ITM for the period until 2015 were defined.
These new approaches are result of a process of reflection and enquiry that started in February, 2004, with the 19th Meeting of Advisers. Executives, professors, students, employees, parents and former university members were asked for advice; several meetings were hold with work groups made up by members of the Technology Council of Monterrey, as well as with university rectors and vice-rectors; public personalities, rectors of national and foreign universities, chief executive managers and public administrators were enquired. A total of 15.000 people took part in these forums and meetings.
In 2015, ITM will be the most distinguished education institution in Latin America, thanks to the leading role that its former students play in the private and public sectors, and the research and development effort that is being carried out in order to launch a knowledge-based economy, to generate models for business management and incubation, to collaborate in the improvement of public administrations and policies and to create innovative models and systems for a sustainable development.
The mission of ITM is to bring up upright, ethical individuals with a humanist vision and capable of being internationally competitive in their professional fields; citizens that commit themselves with the economic, political, social and cultural development of their communities and the sustainable use of natural resources.
Through its training, research and development programmes, ITM trains people and transfers knowledge in order to:
- Promote the international competitiveness of knowledge-based enterprises, innovation, technological development and sustainable development.
- Develop business management models to compete in the global economy.
- Create, establish and transfer models and networks of incubators in order to contribute to business generation.
- To collaborate in the sustainable development of society through innovative models and systems concerning educative, social, economic and political improvement.
Therefore, ITM and its attached community are committed to contributing to social development.
